Recently there was an intriguing post on Facebook:
“There's a common misconception that your parents love the grandkids more than they love you. . .in fact, it is because you produced something that everyday reminds them of you as a child. It is like loving you all over again.”
Those of us who are grandparents know that this is true. Every stage of our grandkids' development reminds us of their parents during that same stage. And we vicariously love our children all over again.
If we as humans can experience this with our own children and grandchildren, think how God experiences this, not only with every generation, but also with every child within that generation. Beginning with Adam, God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit
And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans 5:5
In fact, that love was so great that it enabled us to be called children of God.
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 1 John 3:1
That love has continued with every generation throughout the ages. That same love will continue until the world ends. And after that, we will continue to experience that love with Him in heaven. That is phenomenal! God's love has existed throughout the ages and it will never diminish. That is something that, as we say in today's vernacular, we can't wrap our brains around. It was the desire of the Apostle Paul that we may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width and depth height - to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that we may be filled with the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:18-19).
As we anticipate the upcoming Christmas holiday and all the festivities associated with it, let us not forget the real meaning of Christmas, that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16). That word "whoever" includes everyone that ever lived, everyone who is alive today, and everyone who will ever be born. God's love is the gift that keeps on giving.
