One day last week, I was in my car running errands. It had been raining off and on for several days. At that particular time, it was not raining; but the sky was overcast and gloomy. I was listening to the radio. This particular station occasionally played traditional Christian hymns; but mostly it was about Santa Claus and Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer.
Suddenly, there was a clearing and I could see the blue sky. As if on cue, the radio began to play The Hallelujah Chorus. After a series of hallelujahs, the song says: "For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth." It was a vivid reminder that God was not only present, but He was in control. The world may be in a state of chaos, but God is still in control. Vladimir Putin continues to wreak havoc in the Ukraine. Killers walk into public buildings and shoot people at random. Gangs kill innocent people, including children. Our nation is divided over politics, abortion, race, and the COVID-19 vaccination. But God is still in control.
One of the last lines of the song says: "And He shall reign forever and ever." What a wonderful thought! When Christ returns and regains control of the earth, He will most definitely reign forever and ever. There will be no more wars, no more shootings, and no more division. "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." (Revelation 21:4) "Even so, come, Lord Jesus." (Revelation 22:20) Hallelujah and Amen!
