Hey Moms,
Grocery prices are up, so we need to be smart about how we spend our dollars for food. Here are some pointers:
1. Buy produce that is in season- it's usually cheaper and at peak flavor.
2. Shop at non-stressful times to ease up on the impulse purchases.
3. Buy in bulk when possible. Compare unit prices on your nonperishable purchases: even though a bigger package may cost more in total, it may cost less per ounce or other unit and you will not need to purchase it as frequently.
Great items on your shopping list to buy in bulk:
Baking staples
Breakfast items.
Canned food.
Cheese.
Cleaning supplies.
Diapers and wipes.
Food storage bags.
Meat.
Olive oil.
Paper products.
Pasta.
Pet food.
Protein bars.
Snacks.
Toiletries.
4. Check out your store's weekly sales flyer and stock-up on nonperishables then.
5. Purchase store brands rather than more expensive name brands.
6. Shop lower cost food markets and only visit more expensive stores for weekly specials. Compare prices online before you shop. (Lower cost stores usually do not have a rewards program.)
7. Join your store's loyalty program to earn bonuses and access to special deals EVEN if you only shop there for specials.
Whole Foods Lidl Fresh Market Trader Joe's
8. Compare prices for fresh fruits and vegetables at farmer's markets or roadside stands.
9. When frozen fruits and veggies are on sale, stock up and fill your freezer - they're still packed with nutrients.
10. Clip, store, and save with coupons from mailbox flyers.
11. Avoid last minute shopping with meal planning.
It's all worth your time to save your money . ;)
